This is a Great shooting drill to perform early in your game shooting workout (similar to video above) or in our shooting with consistency and efficiency A-Z program. The A-Z Program has a few different twists that are not shown above. We find that players often struggle with their shot simply because they do not catch ready to shoot. Whether you have an OtterBasketball smooth & efficient release or shoot the ball with very little efficiency, this drill can still be beneficial to you and help you not only become a more consistent shooter, but speed up your release as well.
For our consistent OtterBasketball students, this drill should make a lot of sense to you. Prior to the catch, the shooter should be ready to catch in proper kinesthetic alignment with a wrinkled wrist which will make it easy to create a platform without reverse circling the basketball or flat wrist shooting. Reverse circling and flat wrist shooting both directly affect OtterBasketball efficiency patterns and affect projection on the basketball.
It also makes no sense from an exercise science standpoint when generating power from the floor to the fingertips. The shooter wants to focus on shooting the ball in one smooth motion hitting their natural release point. All of these concepts are taught in prior drills in the program. If an OtterBasketball student struggles with this drill he/she would want to review prior breakdown drills in the efficiency system and correct any shortcomings in those drills.
